Lancaster Anabaptist Study Center
Taught by Dr. Paul Lamicela, Nelson Gehman, and others
Using the book of Galatians as a base, this 10-day course will walk church leaders and Sunday school teachers through the process of studying, preparing, and delivering a sermon/teaching on a scriptural passage. The class will give step-by-step guidance on the following skills:
How to use Bible/word study tools
How to avoid common pitfalls in Bible study/teaching
How to find good Bible study resources/commentaries
How to outline a passage and determine its main thrust
How to trace the flow of argument in a passage/book
How to connect your text to the rest of the Bible
How to create an effective, organized sermon outline
How to dig into the details of more difficult questions in the text
How to apply a passage to your congregation
How to improve with sermon delivery/public speaking (with practice sessions)
By the end of the course, participants will have developed a full sermon/teaching to be used in their church context, will have practiced delivering summaries of their sermons/teachings to fellow participants (and received feedback), and will have a spate of skills and resources to use in future. In addition, the course will provide a deep dive into the book of Galatians and an introduction to Pauline theology.
Course dates are October 27 to November 7, 2025. The class itself will run Monday to Friday both weeks, from 9:00–12:00 each morning.
Some assignments/homework will be required outside of class time. Participants will also have opportunities to pray and fellowship with each other.
Class fee is $500. We strongly encourage churches to cover the costs for their church leaders to attend.
Class size will be small (8–10 participants) due to the hands-on nature of much of the course.
